  • Profile
    The School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (hereafter referred to as SMEE), with 2400 students at present, and so far have cultivated 7300 graduates, was founded in July 2004. In order to meet the talent needs of such professions as Mechanical Design & Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering & Automation, Mechanical & electrical equipment manufacturing, New Energy Technology, SMEE has established 10 specialties, namely, Computer Aided Design & Computer Aided Manufacturing, Mould Design & Manufacturing, Computer Numerical Control Technology, Inspection & Testing Technology, Electric Automation Technology, Mechotronics Technology, Building Intelligence Engineering Technology, HVAC Engineering Technology and New Energy Technology & Application. Among them, Computer Aided Design & Computer Aided Manufacturing and Building Intelligence Engineering Technology are the first batch National-level model specialties. Moreover, Electric Automation Technology has been listed as model specialties of Guangdong Province. During the period of “The 12th Five-Year Guideline”, SMEE will gradually set up a multi-level and comprehensive high skilled talent-cultivating system, and initiate the construction of the New Energy Discipline, establishing New Energy Engineering School based on SMEE, seeking to make the school’s student quantity exceed 3000. 
    SMEE works up a strong faculty of 118staff members, including 27doctors and 57masters, 14 professors and 62 associate professors, among whom 1 is honored as “National Teaching Master” and 3 are honored as “Gold teachers of Shenzhen Polytechnic”, 90% of our teachers are “dual-skilled”. There are 7 courses conferred as “National Quality Courses” and 3 as “Provincial Quality Courses”. SMEE has its on-campus practice training centers covering 7600 m2 and practice training facilities worth nearly 93 million Yuan.
 
  • Teaching
    SMEE focuses on the cultivation of specialty fundamental knowledge, innovative and practical skills as well as vocational qualities for students, and places emphasis on the improvement of teaching qualities and construction of a positive learning atmosphere. Since 2008, SMEE has been honored as “advanced department” for three consecutive years of SZU and “advanced organization” in Shenzhen’s education system. Quite some students won top prizes in various kinds of competitions both at home and abroad. Among them, 156 awards were above provincial, which included 40 national and 21 international awards in the past three years. Meanwhile, for two consecutive years, SMEE also gained Grade “A” in our “Comprehensive Evaluation of Teaching Quality” of SZU.
    The close concern and longing for the high skilled, practical and professional talents from enterprises have provided the graduates from SMEE great career opportunities. Combining closely with the society and the industrial needs, SMEE actively explore the effective ways for training high skilled talents so as to make the graduates all have a bright future. On average, our graduates’ employment rate was over 95% at a time in the past five years. According to the statistics from Mycos’ Social Needs and Training Quality Annual Report in recent two years, students from SMEE earned a more considerable monthly income compared with those of other schools a year after their graduation. In recent years, our school strives to set up cooperation with enterprises and began to carry out the “Oder plus Association” talent cultivation pattern, by which way we cultivate suitable talents to match the needs of those domestic excellent and large enterprises such as China Guangdong Nuclear Power Group (CGN), Shenzhen Gongji Technology Co. Ltd, thus effectively increase the employment opportunity and quality for the graduates.
  • Research
    SMEE has focused on the actual need of the society and enterprises, and tried every means to promote school-enterprise cooperation and enhance core competitiveness. SMEE aims to cultivate innovative and pioneering talents, implement the strategy of “off-campus research”. With the guideline of technology application and development, SMEE gives prominence to its unique characteristics and make overall plans so as to improve the existing Modern Design and Manufacturing Technology key lab and the operating mechanism of Automation Technology Research Center. We focus on the construction of three research platform like the Integration Engineering Technology Development Center of Advanced Equipment Manufacturing Automation System, etc. Taking “reasonable arrangement”, “integration of resources” and “innovation and integration” as its principal, SMEE cultivates 6 research and development team for core technology innovation.
    SMEE encourages some of its specialties to explore the strategy to cooperate with the government and enterprises, and jointly create 3-5 demand-oriented cooperative union to the form interaction among production, teaching and research, altogether realize triple-wins. And each side can better enhance international communication to introduce, digest and assimilate advanced technology.
 
  • Exchange
    SMEE attaches great importance to international exchange and works at extending students’ horizons. So our school set up a joint course with Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education--- Haking Wong named “advanced diploma for Electrical Service Engineering”, and the students can get a diploma at both sides. SMEE cooperates with the University of Houston in the United States, the University of Wolverhampton in United Kingdom, the University of Applied Sciences in Esslingen of Germany, the University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg of Germany, the University of Ballarat in Australia, the Singapore Polytechnic, the Kunshan University of Technology in Taiwan, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education and etc.. With these universities and institutes, we’ve made teacher-student exchanges and have upbuilt cooperative relations ranging from teaching programs to scientific researches. Especially, our graduates can enjoy a steady flow to the University of Wolverhampton in United Kingdom and the Ballarat University in Australia for further study through student-teacher exchange programs.
  • Off-Campus Service & Training
    SMEE has established school-enterprise cooperation with more than 80 companies, and set up FACT—Festo (German) Authorized and Certified Training Center, FANUC (Japan) numerical control system South China Applied Center, and Siemens Automatics Training Center. Meanwhile, ABB Automatic Practical Training Chamber, SMEE has also established 74bases for off-campus internship in Shenzhen.
    SMEE has Shenzhen Modern Design and Manufacturing Technology key lab, Training Center of Chinese Non-destructive Testing Institution, Precision Mould Technology Center, and Automation Technology Research Center to provide service to medium-sized and small enterprises. The service includes machine design analysis, precision manufacturing, precision mould design and manufacturing, component inspection, non-destructive testing, mechanotronics machine research and development, automation technology software and hardware product research and development. SMEE has taken an active part in external training, technical consultation, support and service, training to employees from enterprises, solution to technical problems.
